Capacity Building
AFREC aims to build capacity among urban actors on responsible management of green environments. This is through providing urban authorities with technical assistance, skills and best practices on management of urban green infrastructure. AFREC increases awareness of the need to sustainably manage urban green infrastructure through trainings and participatory approaches that get all actors involved.
Research & Urban Resilience
AFREC uses evidence-based mechanisms like conducting applied research to obtain credible data and information to support policy and decision makers design inclusive polices that can positively impact vulnerable communities. Through interdisciplinary and applied research, AFREC enhances knowledge generation, innovation and urban climate resilience.
Urban Green Initiatives
AFREC designs projects aimed at greening new sites and restoration of degraded sites among African cities. Using its networks, AFREC lobbies, advocates and engages urban communities in urban tree planting campaigns so as to create equity, enhance conservation and management of urban green spaces in Africa.
Partnerships
AFREC identifies and links funders and investors to potential investments in urban green spaces in Africa. AFREC partners with state and non state actors in urban forestry to enhance inclusive decision making and accountability so as to build resilience of African cities in light of the changing climate.
